| Brian Johnson Adjutant, American Legion Post 132 |
Happy Spring and do not forget the upcoming time change on March 9th. I know, not many of us enjoy the loss of an hour of sleep, but a little more sunlight after work in the evening will sure help. There are a very few months left in our 2024/2025 legion year and it is time to start thinking about who will be leading our Legion family units into the 25/26 Legion year. Your Post is a volunteer organization for the most part. A few of our staff make a small hourly wage but the majority of folks to coordinate these activities, cook your steak or flip your pancakes are volunteers. There are many roles and opportunities available for you to help serve the veterans in our community. The following positions will be open for nomination and election this year:
- Commander - Chairperson for our meetings and leader and visionary for our Post
- 1st Vice Commander - Membership Chair and Commander's right hand
- 2nd Vice Commander - Ways and Means. Plans activities and events to involve all of our members in all of our Legion Families
- 3rd Vice Commander - Americanism, children & youth,
- Financial Officer - Our chief financial monitor and advisor
- 4 Executive Committee members - Executive Committee members advise the commander, assisting in planning and execution of activities and provide some oversight for major plans and activities at the Post.
Consistent with the provisions of the bylaws, first nominations of officers will be at our April general meeting on April 10th at 7:00 PM. Second nomination and elections will be held at our May general meeting on May 8th at 7:00 PM. It is very important that we get participation from our membership especially at the May, general meeting. We need to hear your voice and understand your ideas for your post in the 25/26 Legion year. Please come down, enjoy one of Craig's excellent hamburgers then join us for our May meeting.
Do you qualify to serve as an appointed or elected officer? Probably, yes. You must be a member in good standing at the time of nomination. Good standing means your dues are paid current and your service has been verified.
You are a member of the Sons, Auxiliary or Riders. When are our elections and are the rules the same. Please contact your leadership in your Legion Family Unit for election requirements and procedures.
If you have any questions regarding serving in an elected or appointed role at the Post, please feel free to reach out to one of us with your questions.
Lastly, I want to extend my apology to our members and my colleagues on the e-board. As many of you know, 2024 was a tough year for me. I went through a series of oral and physical medical procedures including surgical procedures that culminated in a total hip replacement at the end of the year. Using the stairs at the Post was progressively difficult until the end of the year when it was impossible. I am very pleased to report that I am well on my way to recovery. My Doc gives me a few more weeks but I have started back to work and am trying to play catch up on my duties at the Post. I appreciate your understanding and patience as I work my way back to full duty.
I am very pleased to say for the first time in months that, I will see you down at the Post, soon.
